Google’s similar app to Apple’s AirDrop, Nearby Share, is now officially available on Windows. The application was in beta with more than 1.7 million people participating, and the company made it out of beta right now. You can use Nearby Share to share images, videos, documents, and more between Windows computers and Android devices. Here are the details about the Nearby Share for Windows…
Nearby Share for Windows makes it easier to share files between Windows and Android
If you have an Android device, you may have used the Nearby Share feature on your device to share files or anything else between other Android devices. Now, you can share files across your phones, tablets, Chromebooks, Windows, and more devices. Earlier this year, the Nearby Share feature became available in a beta version for Windows PCs. It is out of beta anymore, and it can be downloaded officially.
Google explains, “Nearby Share for Windows, available as an app download on PCs around the world, has now been installed by more than 1.7 million people. With photos and videos being the most popular file types to send, we’ve seen over 50 million files transferred between PC and Android devices since launch. No need to search for any cables or cords – sharing media to your own devices or with nearby friends and family is possible with just a few clicks.”
Although it is available on many devices, there are some device requirements:
Important: ARM devices are not supported.
- A computer with a 64-bit version of Windows 10 and up.
- An Android device with Android 6.0 and up.
- Turn on Bluetooth on both devices.
- If your Windows device doesn’t support BLE Extended Advertising, other people may not be able to find and share with you on certain networks.
- Turn on Wi-Fi or ethernet on both devices.
- Connect both devices to the same network.
- Make sure the devices are within about 16 feet, or 5 meters, of each other.
