Despite being one of the largest digital streaming platforms in the world, Netflix has been in the spotlight recently due to price hikes and subscription news. According to official announcements made today, the digital streaming platform will be removing the Basic subscription plan in some countries. Here are the details about the Netflix Basic subscription plan and the countries where it will be removed…
Netflix to Offer Ad-Supported or More Expensive Plans Instead of Basic Subscription
Recently, Netflix made headlines again with price hike news, marking the second increase in Turkey this year, raising subscription fees by 30%. The latest announcements confirm that Netflix will direct users in some countries towards the ad-supported or more expensive Standard and Premium plans instead of the Basic subscription package.
Although recent package changes have gradually started to turn people away from Netflix, millions of users still maintain their subscriptions. Today’s announcement reveals that the affordable ad-free package will be discontinued in the UK and France, and users will be pushed to choose between the affordable ad-supported package or the more expensive ad-free packages.
In the UK, the Netflix Basic subscription plan was offered at $11.99, but it will no longer be available to new users. The new ad-supported subscription plan, which is introduced as a more affordable option, will be available to new users at $6.99.
Netflix offers the ad-free Standard version in the UK for $15.49 and the Premium Plan for $22.99. Additionally, Netflix had previously announced that it was testing a feature to show ads when the pause button is pressed. If implemented, this feature will only apply to ad-supported subscriptions.
