This change has affected the vision and approach of the film. Lee summarized the new direction of the film by stating that it will offer a more personal perspective rather than being a big, showy project.

The BioShock film was first announced in 2022. Despite some changes since then, Francis Lawrence still occupies the director’s chair. Initially, the script was assigned to Michael Green, who is known for writing films such as Logan and Blade Runner 2049.
