Twitch, which originally started with game-focused live streams, has gradually expanded to host different types of content over the years. Users can now engage in Twitch streams not only by playing games but also by simply conversing. Adult content has also started to appear in these streams.
Twitch will provide new tags for adult content.
Twitch has strict rules regarding adult content. While Twitch does not change its Community Guidelines to allow such content, it now demands that broadcasts be tagged more accurately.
The tags provided by Twitch are used by broadcasters to express their content. This way, viewers can easily access streams that are suitable for them. With the addition of new tags to the streaming platform, broadcasters will be able to use more specific expressions instead of just labeling their content as “Adult Content.”
With this change, Twitch has added new content classifications. As a result, broadcasters will describe their live streams with more specific terms rather than just “Adult Content.” Here are the new tags that will be available on Twitch:
- Adult-oriented games
- Sexual themes
- Drug, substance abuse, or excessive tobacco use
- Violence, blood, gore depictions
- Excessive profanity and obscenities
- Gambling
Twitch announced that broadcasters will continue to have control and that they will receive a warning via email if they fail to use the appropriate content tags. The company also states that the correct tags will be automatically applied to the streams and that suspensions will not be imposed on broadcasters who fail to tag their broadcasts correctly.
Twitch believes that these new tags will not only protect young viewers but also help deliver advertisements in a more suitable manner. More detailed tagging of streams will provide clearer information for advertisers.
As the scope of content creators expands on the streaming platform, Twitch needs to take additional measures. What are your thoughts on Twitch and adult content? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section.
