Relic Entertainment and World’s Edge have provided an important update for Age of Empires 4. The iconic strategy game will now offer cross-play support between PC and Xbox consoles. With this support, console and PC players will be able to face off against each other.
Age of Empires 4 will support cross-platform
The update, dubbed Season 7, brings Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One players together in multiplayer modes for the first time. Opponents will now be able to team up and go head-to-head in modes like Team Deathmatch without any platform restrictions.
Cross-play support has become very popular in recent years. The real-time strategy title is following suit, bringing both console and PC users together under one roof. In addition, Season 7 introduces significant balance changes for all civilizations in Age of Empires 4.
The developers said they tweaked units, technologies and economies based on months of gameplay data. You can review the adjustments made for each civilization in the patch notes at this link.
The cross-play update looks set to help grow Age of Empires 4’s player base across all platforms. Originally released to critical acclaim in late 2021, the game continues to grow with expansions like Dawn of the Dukes.
