AMD has unveiled its new line of Ryzen Pro processors for commercial and professional use. The AMD Ryzen Pro 8000 series is the company’s first processor family for the AI PC. So what will the Zen 4-based “Hawk Point” series offer?
AMD Ryzen Pro 8000 series specifications
The biggest highlight of the Ryzen Pro 8000 series is the integrated neural processing unit (NPU). This will enable AMD to bring AI to business laptops and workstations. The basic design is based on the Ryzen 8000 mobile processors.
AMD has not changed the CPU and graphics processing (GPU) units of the Ryzen 8000 series. However, it said it offers additional security, management and safety features designed specifically for commercial and enterprise customers.
AMD’s XNDA NPU engine will provide up to 16 trillion parts per second (TOPS) of dedicated processing power for AI operations. According to the company, this means it will outperform the 11 TOPS NPUs in Intel’s Meteor Lake processors.
The Intel Lunar Lake series, unveiled last week, will offer 34 TOPS of processing power in laptops. AMD says the new Ryzen Pro 8000 will deliver 39 TOPS of system-wide AI performance.
The Ryzen Pro 8000 series will power workstations, desktops and laptops. It was also stated that the Ryzen Pro 8000G will be the first business-oriented desktop processor with NPU. The Ryzen Pro 8840 mobile processor will have Ryzen AI features compared to the Pro 7840 series.
According to AMD, the NPU will provide AI tasks for better privacy, latency, performance and battery life. It also opens up new possibilities for AI-accelerated features and software.
