BYD has accelerated its efforts for its new electric SUV model called M6, which is expected to target the global market. The M6 prototype recently shared on social media revealed that the new electric vehicle is right-hand drive. This suggests that it could be offered to markets such as Asia and the UK.
The seven-seater BYD M6 comes in a refreshed version
The BYD M6 in the leaked photos looks very similar to the Song MAX DM-i currently on sale in China. It features a front and rear design with chrome accents. It appears to be about 4710 mm long, 1810 mm wide and 1690 mm high, in line with the MAX DM-i’s 2785 mm wheelbase.
Engine specifications are unknown for now. But it will probably be similar to the Song MAX, powered by a 1.5L hybrid powertrain with an 81kW gasoline engine and a 145kW electric motor. The plug-in hybrid system, together with the DM-i battery developed by BYD, could provide a driving range of over 1000 km.
Images from China show an electric car badge on the M6 prototype. This indicates that it could be offered to the global market with an all-electric powertrain.
The details of the BYD M6 remain unclear for now. However, it is likely to join the brand’s internationally sold models such as the Yuan Plus, Han, Tang and Song MAX DM-i.
On the other hand, BYD unveiled its Tesla rival Hiace 07 model in recent weeks. The SUV is the first model based on BYD’s new generation e-platform 3.0 Evo. Featuring the latest developments in the company’s electric motor and battery technologies, the 3.0 Evo follows the company’s Ocean Network design language.
