Sony’s Remote Play-focused handheld console, PlayStation Portal, is getting ready to gain a new feature. A leak from the PS App suggests the device will soon receive a highly anticipated feature. This feature will allow PS Plus Premium subscribers to stream purchased digital games via the cloud without requiring downloads.
Leak Claims PlayStation Portal Comes with New Feature
A user named “GetTheWetsOn” shared a key screenshot on the PlayStation Portal subreddit on Reddit. This screenshot was taken from the store page of the PlayStation app’s “Deliver at All Costs” game. The leak clearly stated that PS Plus Premium subscribers would be able to play their purchased digital games via cloud streaming. The same confirmation also appeared on the store page of the “Dead Space” remake shortly thereafter. These confirmations were quickly removed after the post.
No official confirmation has yet been made regarding the arrival of this new streaming option. However, it is highly unlikely that this information, appearing on the store pages of two different games, is a coincidence. Since the device’s launch in 2023 and its unexpected popularity, Sony has reiterated that it is constantly working to improve the system’s functionality. Playing digitally owned games directly from the cloud, without downloading them to the PS5, is exactly what was expected.
The PlayStation Portal will be a Remote Play-focused handheld. While not a successor to the long-awaited PlayStation Vita, it serves its purpose exceptionally well. Expanding the digital game library via cloud streaming will further boost interest in the device. It’s highly likely that this leak points to a feature users have been requesting for a long time.
