New flagship phones will be more expensive! Here’s why

Recent leaks suggest that the prices of the new generation high-end Qualcomm and MediaTek processors will be approximately 20% higher than their predecessors. Unfortunately, this indicates that new flagship smartphone models will also have higher price tags compared to earlier models.

In recent weeks, Ice Universe reported that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset will be 20% more expensive. Now, another leak confirms this information. According to Digital Chat Station, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset will also have a high price due to being built on the Qualcomm chip.

According to details shared by Digital Chat Station, the reason for this price increase is TSMC’s N3E manufacturing process, which will be used for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400. It is said that Qualcomm and MediaTek’s new high-end chipsets will see a 20% price hike.

With this increase, the price of the Dimensity 9400 is expected to be around $155, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is projected to cost approximately $190. Generally, chip manufacturers do not disclose the prices of their chips. However, if the increase is indeed 20%, the Dimensity 9400 chipset would cost $124, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 would be around $152.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 Will Increase Costs!

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 will be more expensive compared to previous versions, leading to increased costs.

Analyst Min-Chu Kuo mentioned in June, alongside Digital Chat Station and Ice Universe, that there could be an even larger price increase ranging from 25% to 30%. While these values may fluctuate, there is a consensus among sources that the new chipsets will be more expensive than their predecessors.

If smartphone manufacturers are indeed paying these increased prices for the processors, it is evident that this cost will be passed on to consumers, leading to more expensive high-end smartphones.
