According to a new report, Apple will introduce AI features in iOS 18 that do not use cloud-based technologies. AI features that will be powered entirely by iPhone are expected to run locally on devices.
iOS 18’s AI features will be iPhone-based
Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman discussed the first AI features Apple will introduce with iOS 18. Gurman reports that Apple’s big language model and AI-powered software will not rely on any cloud processing.
This means that new features in Apple apps like Siri, Spotlight and Messages will be powered by the iPhone’s hardware. iOS 18 is also not expected to include a chatbot that relies on servers.
The new productive AI will make Siri better at answering complex questions and open the door to features like auto-filling sentences in Messages. It will also bring AI features to apps like Safari, Shortcuts, Apple Music, Health and Keynote.
The last major visual overhaul of iOS was in 2013, with a flatter and more modern design language. With iOS 7, Apple switched to flat icons and a simple theme, and after more than 10 years, Apple is preparing to abandon this interface.
We have to wait for WWDC in June for the official release. iOS 18 will be distributed with the beta program throughout the summer; It will be released in the stable version with the iPhone 16 launch.
