A new leak has revealed that MediaTek’s new flagship processor, the Dimensity 9600, will position itself between the standard and Pro versions of Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 in terms of performance.
The Dimensity 9600 will stand out with its performance
This information, shared by tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS), confirms that Qualcomm’s new flagship chipset will be released in two variants: the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the Pro version.
According to the leaks, the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 will fall right in between these two Snapdragon models in terms of performance. This means the Dimensity 9600 will outperform the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, but won’t reach the performance level of the Pro version. It’s also been stated that MediaTek’s flagship chipset will not be available in different versions for now and will continue to use the reliable ARM CPU architecture.
DCS confirmed that the Dimensity 9600 will likely utilize the same 2nm TSMC manufacturing process used in Qualcomm’s new chips. This process will allow MediaTek to compete more closely with Snapdragon models in terms of performance. However, the Dimensity 9600’s exact performance configuration and GPU specifications are not yet clear.
From Qualcomm’s perspective, the main differences between the standard and Pro models are GPU performance and memory support. The Pro version is expected to support LPDDR6 memory, while the standard model will come with a more limited memory footprint. Both Qualcomm chips are designed with a third-generation custom CPU architecture featuring a 2+3+3 core layout.
