New Tomb Raider game teased in Modern Warfare 2

We recently told you that a new Tomb Raider game might be coming. This claim is getting stronger with new information emerging every day. We even saw Lara Croft’s new design with the latest development!

Revised version of Lara Croft in CoD MW 2 revealed

Call of Duty has become a game that loves these kinds of crossover events. Fornite used to be the go-to game for such crossovers, but since Call of Duty Warzone has been on the agenda, it’s been a big deal. We recently reported that Call of Duty Moder Warfare 2 Warzone will feature Nicki Minaj and Snoop Dogg. A Lara Croft appeared at a similar crossover event.

While the modern Tomb Raider trilogy served as an origin story for Lara, it was always a bit at odds with the comic book aesthetic of the original games. However, in 2021, the developers talked about an effort to “merge these timelines,” which has fans speculating on what Lara will look like when the series bridges the gap between exaggerated 90s sex appeal and modern gritty realism.

That’s why the new Lara Croft look debuted in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone Season 5 Reloaded has been a big hit in the Tomb Raider community. Here’s Lara in her classic blue tank top, wielding an old-school dual pistol, but looking a little more like a real person than she did in her PlayStation days.

Of course, Lara’s appearance in Call of Duty may not tell us exactly what she’ll look like in the next game. Considering that this was a crossover event by a different developer who chose Lara’s most recognizable outfit, we shouldn’t take this version as a sure thing or a hint for future Tomb Raider games.

But this costume gives us a glimpse of what a Lara Croft might look like, bridging the gap between the old and new aesthetic. And if the franchise rights holders have approved a more classic look for Lara in CoD, this could indicate that the new game is moving away from the survivor aesthetic.

The new Tomb Raider game was officially announced in 2022 as a cinematic action-adventure built on Unreal Engine 5. Later in the year, Amazon announced that it would publish the game.
