Google has updated its AI-powered video editing tool, Google Vids, with new format options. Both Workspace users and individual account holders can now edit their videos in vertical or square format.
Announced in April 2024, Google Vids, the AI-powered video editing tool, has quickly become a powerful platform for content creators. With this new update, the company aims to make the video production process more flexible and social media-focused.
Great Convenience for Content Creators
Users can now create their videos on Google Vids in either 9:16 vertical or 1:1 square formats. These new ratios are particularly convenient for users creating content for platforms like Reels, Shorts, and TikTok.
With these options added to the standard 16:9 horizontal format, Google Vids offers a much wider range of uses. The new formats can be easily activated by selecting the “Video size” option in the menu bar of the app interface or by going to File > Video size.
This update is considered a new step in Google’s vision of combining generative AI with creative processes.
Google stated in a statement that the new video sizes added to the Google Vids app will offer significant advantages, particularly for those creating content for short-form video platforms like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok. The company also announced the addition of vertical and square video templates suitable for these formats.
Originally developed for creating training videos, presentations, and promotional content, Google Vids was eventually made available to Google Workspace users and has become even more powerful through integration with the Veo 2 and Veo 3 models.
With the update, users can now perform tasks such as changing backgrounds with text commands, converting images to video, and creating videos with voice narration directly within Google Vids. Videos from Google Drive can also be easily edited within the app.
Google announced that the new video formats are being rolled out gradually and will be available to all users within the next few weeks. The company also emphasized that Workspace users do not need to configure any additional administrator settings to use these features.
