WhatsApp has begun testing a significant new WhatsApp media filtering feature for iPhone users, aiming to solve the common problem of finding specific media files in long chat histories. This update, now available in the latest iOS beta, introduces a redesigned gallery interface to streamline the user experience and put an end to endless scrolling.
How Does the New WhatsApp Media Filtering Work?
The new feature completely overhauls the in-chat media gallery, making it more modern and functional. Previously, users had to navigate through general tabs like “Media, Links, and Docs.” The updated design introduces distinct and easy-to-use filter buttons at the top of the gallery, allowing users to quickly sort their content by type.
This redesigned interface allows users to view only photos, videos, or GIFs, instead of seeing all shared media files on a single screen. Consequently, finding a specific memory or file is now much faster and more intuitive. In addition, the interface now includes the chat’s name in the header, making it clearer which conversation’s media you are browsing.
Special Filter for Stickers Also Included
The improvements are not limited to just photos and videos. WhatsApp is also providing a dedicated filter for stickers to some beta testers. This will be particularly helpful for users who want to find a sticker sent long ago or quickly add multiple stickers to their favorites.
However, it is important to note that the feature is being rolled out gradually. This means that even if you have the latest beta version installed via TestFlight (version 26.6.10.70), you may not see the new interface immediately. WhatsApp is expected to release the feature to all users once it is stable and fully tested.
