The long-promised “next-gen” patch for Fallout 4 has been delayed until 2024. Bethesda announced that the update has been pushed back to 2024 after promising it for this year. Although the developers stated that they just need “a little more time”, no information was given as to what time of the year the patch will be released.
Next-gen Fallout 4 delayed to 2024
The “next-gen” patch is actually a new update for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. However, Fallout 4 was first released for previous-gen consoles in 2015. So on that scale, the patch is a next-gen patch. It will bring requested features such as a higher frame rate, 4K visuals, and new (though unspecified) Creation Club content.
For fans of the series, there are expected to be surprises to make up for the delay. This isn’t Bethesda’s first attempt to improve Fallout 4. An update for Xbox One X brought 4K visuals. But only at 30 frames per second. Last year, the company managed to increase the frame rate to 60FPS but sacrificed resolution. This time the improvements will come with fewer compromises.
At the very least, this patch is a relief for gamers and a long time coming, because there’s a considerably long time to wait before Fallout 5. In 2022, Bethesda creative director Todd Howard told reporters that work on the game would begin after The Elder Scrolls 6 was completed.
After the release of Starfield, the developers started working on its fantastic sequel. It’s worth noting that Starfield took about 7 years to make. According to this measurement, we can say that unfortunately it will be between 10 and 14 years before we see the new Fallout game.

In the series, which will air in April, Walton Goggins plays Ghoul, one of the residents of the Wasteland exposed to radiation. Some even think that Goggins will not be an old Ghoul, but will play John Hancock, a friend from Fallout 4.
