Nintendo’s Big Move! Acquires Shiver Entertainment

Ana sayfa / News

Nintendo has made a significant move by acquiring Shiver Entertainment. This time, things are a bit different. While the Japanese giant usually leans towards strategic partnerships, they have now turned to Shiver. So, why is this small Florida studio so important? Let’s take a closer look…

Previously owned by Embracer, Shiver Entertainment was founded in late 2012 by John Schappert, Jason Andersen, and Jon Osvald. The company started with a small but talented team in Miami’s sunny atmosphere. Initially focusing on mobile and free-to-play games, the studio eventually shifted towards console and PC development.

Shiver collaborated with Warner Bros. to handle the Switch ports of major games like Mortal Kombat 11 and Hogwarts Legacy, and they will continue to port new games. Nintendo closely monitored Shiver Entertainment, which gained considerable attention with the games it released.

Nintendo Switch Successor Incoming! Nintendo Confirms Next-Gen Console Announcement

Shiver has worked on the Switch versions of major games like Scribblenauts: Showdown, Mortal Kombat 11, Hogwarts Legacy, and Mortal Kombat 1. While the Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 was not well-received, it does not change the fact that this studio is talented.

Shiver’s CEO, John Schappert, is an experienced figure who has worked with industry giants like EA and Microsoft. As a reliable leader for Nintendo, Schappert’s expertise, coupled with Shiver’s past successful collaborations with Nintendo, makes this acquisition a logical move.

Nintendo may use Shiver Entertainment not only for current projects but also to support future Switch platforms. Shiver’s technical knowledge and connections with other studios could help strengthen Nintendo’s third-party game support.

Shiver’s expertise and the leadership team’s experience will likely play a significant role in Nintendo’s future projects. What will come out of the Nintendo and Shiver collaboration? We will see together. What do you think? You can share your thoughts in the comments section below.
