Nissan has announced that it will no longer invest in developing internal combustion engines. This means the company is taking a step towards an electric future. With this decision, the company will follow the hybrid and fossil fuel technologies of rival manufacturers such as Toyota.
Nissan to stop developing internal combustion engines
Nissan Europe Vice President Francois Bailly said in a recent statement that the company’s future will consist of electric cars. He confirmed that the company is not investing in new powertrains for internal combustion engines.
Gasoline engines will continue to power Nissan vehicles for now. However, this statement means that we won’t see a new generation of Nissan engines using gasoline-diesel fuels. The brand’s focus will be on electric motor and battery technology.
Nissan was one of the first brands to enter the world of electric cars with the launch of its first Leaf model in 2010. It recently launched the all-electric Ariya SUV. It has also confirmed plans to stop sales of internal combustion vehicles in Europe by 2030.
This announcement also fuels speculation that the Nissan R36 GT-R will be exclusively electric. There is also the possibility that the Nissan Z sports car could be the company’s last gas-powered model.
Having invested billions of dollars to electrify its UK factory, Nissan will focus entirely on battery power instead of hybrid technologies.
