Microsoft first announced that it would make radical changes with Windows 11, which was launched in 2021. Although there are major innovations in design, the “free trial version” of the years has remained unchanged. However, the company may switch to a subscription-based model with Windows 12.

Will Windows 12 charge money every month with a subscription?

Interesting details emerged from the latest Canary builds of Windows 11. Accordingly, it was stated that Microsoft was testing some features that could be linked to subscription. The subscription version in the Canary codes revealed the phrases defined as “Device-Based Subscription” and “User-Based Subscription”.

There were also cases querying the user’s subscription type. It was revealed that the subscription status was tested with options such as “Active”, “Inactive” and “Expired”.

Say goodbye to Cortana with the latest Windows 11 update!

The new Windows 11 update 25967 has been released. The update brings a new Windows 11 settings app. Cortana assistant is also unplugged.

This seems to be in line with Microsoft’s previous reports on the future of Windows. The company wants to move Windows more and more to the cloud. Features like Cloud PC in Windows 11 previews have shown Microsoft experimenting with multiple desktop options on a single device.

A new subscription-based system could completely change the way Windows is used. Microsoft, which has been selling one-time codes to activate Windows for years, may want to switch to device and user-based subscriptions.

It is possible to say that this feature is included in Windows Canary codes and is being tested for Windows 12. Thanks to the subscription, Microsoft will be able to generate continuous revenue from Windows and support cloud services.
