No one is working on Cyberpunk 2077 anymore

Ana sayfa / Technology

Cyberpunk 2077’s haunting launch in December 2020 was perhaps one of the worst game launches in recent memory. Bugs in graphics and missions, performance issues, tons of unfulfilled promises, heartbroken players and a game that kept crashing… But the game has come a long way in the 3.5 years since its release. After numerous updates and a massive DLC expansion, it turns out that no one is working on Cyberpunk 2077 anymore.

According to CD Projekt Red’s latest financial reports, not a single developer is working on Cyberpunk 2077 anymore. This is perhaps the first time this has happened to the company in more than a decade. Because the same report shows that even in February this year, 17 developers were working on Cyberpunk 2077.

Already at the end of February, CD Projekt Red released the 2.12 update for Cyberpunk 2077, which included numerous bug fixes. After this update, the developers of the game were probably transferred to other games of the company.

In each financial report, the studio details how many people work on which projects. The report also clearly shows the projects CD Projekt Red prioritizes. The company is putting most of its developers on the new The Witcher game, codenamed Polaris. However, it is known that the company will not release the highly anticipated fourth The Witcher game anytime soon.

CD Projekt Red actually announced that it halted development on Cyberpunk 2077 after releasing its first expansion, Phantom Liberty, in September 2023. Phantom Liberty came after the 2.0 update, which brought features such as a new skill system to the game and changed the dynamics of the game.

This was followed by update 2.1, which introduced some improvements such as improved AI. After the 2.11 update, many bugs were fixed and 2.12 gave the game a final polish. CD Projekt Red announced that it has transferred the majority of the Cyberpunk 2077 team to the new The Witcher game.

Now, gamers are eagerly awaiting CD Projekt Red’s upcoming games. What’s your favorite CD Projekt Red game or the one you’re most looking forward to?
