Nothing, which has earned a unique place in the tech world with its innovative designs, has released the first promotional video for its highly anticipated new interface, Nothing OS 4.0. Following Google’s official release of Android 16 in June, all eyes were on manufacturers who would integrate their own interfaces into this new version. Nothing has signaled that it will be one of the first brands to take this step.
New Interface and Icons with Nothing OS 4.0
A short video shared on Nothing’s social media accounts offers the first glimpses into the aesthetics of Nothing OS 4.0, based on Android 16. The new icon designs, which remain faithful to the company’s iconic “dot matrix” font and minimalist approach, are noteworthy. The trailer emphasizes that the new version will be “evolved” and redefined, aiming for more than just a visual refresh.
Nothing had promised to release the Android 16 update for its latest flagship, the Nothing Phone (3), which launched at the beginning of July. This announcement confirms that the schedule is proceeding as planned and that the update will be available first to Phone (3) users.
The biggest question mark in the update schedule concerns the company’s first major update, the Nothing Phone (1). Released in July 2022 and promised to receive three major Android updates, the device has theoretically reached the end of software support. This means the Phone (1) will not officially receive the Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0 update.
However, Nothing CEO Carl Pei didn’t close the door completely in a statement. He stated that the company is working on a special program for Phone (1) owners, whom he describes as “day one users,” but declined to provide further details. This mysterious statement has been interpreted by tech insiders as meaning the Phone (1) will receive the update through a limited beta program.
It’s worth noting, however, that Pei hasn’t made any concrete promises yet, and that Phone (1) users shouldn’t get their hopes up too high. For those still enjoying Nothing’s first phone, this uncertainty is expected to become clearer soon. We’ll keep you updated as new information becomes available.
