Nothing, the notable tech brand, has released the stable version of Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0 for five more models following its rollout last week. Previously available for the Nothing Phone (3), the update is now available for the Nothing Phone (2), Phone (2a), and Phone (3a) series devices.
NothingOS 4.0 update is live
According to information provided by Technology Editor Erkan Calp, the models receiving the Nothing OS 4.0 update and their respective build numbers are as follows: Nothing Phone 2, Nothing Phone 2a, Nothing Phone 2a Plus, Nothing Phone 3a, and Nothing Phone 3a Pro. The update for these devices is approximately 3 GB in size.
Nothing OS 4.0, based on Android 16, brings significant improvements to users. These include an even darker mode option, updated Nothing app icons, and new camera presets. However, some of the new features differ across models.
While the Phone (2a) series and the newer Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro models gain the new AI summary panel feature, the 2023 model, Nothing Phone (2), lacks this feature. The company attributes this to the Phone (2) lacking a physical Essential Key button and therefore lacking access to Essential Space.
To check if their device has received the Nothing OS 4.0 update, users can check the version under Nothing OS by going to Settings, About Phone, and Software Information. Meanwhile, the Nothing Phone (3a) Lite is expected to receive the update in January 2026. Other CMF smartphones will also begin updating to Android 16 starting in December 2025.
