Nubia’s latest flagship smartphone, the Nubia Z80 Ultra, has been officially unveiled. This model, notable for its latest and most powerful Qualcomm chipset, massive battery, and upgraded main camera, looks set to intensify competition in the premium segment. The Nubia Z80 Ultra comes with a massive battery
The new Nubia Z80 Ultra features a very similar design to its predecessor, retaining a rectangular camera module on the rear with a large cutout for the main sensor. Featuring flat side bezels, a front and back panel, the device is 8.6 mm thick and weighs 227 grams. The phone is IP68 + IP69 rated for water and dust resistance.
Available in a variety of colors, including Phantom Black, Intense Light White, and Starry Night Collector’s Edition, the device also features a Luo Tianyi Limited Edition variant in a bright red design.
The front panel features a 6.85-inch BOE X10 OLED display with a 1.5K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and a touch sampling rate of up to 960Hz. Equipped with features such as 10-bit color depth, 100% DCI P3 color gamut, DC dimming, and 2592Hz PWM dimming, the display can reach up to 2000 nits of peak brightness and features an in-display fingerprint reader.
The Nubia Z80 Ultra comes with the latest flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. This high-performance chip offers significant improvements in performance, graphics, and efficiency. It is accompanied by up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage.
The device comes out of the box with the exclusive Nebula AIOS 2 interface based on Android 16. Limited-edition models offer exclusive HD wallpapers, personalized boot animations, fingerprint unlocking, and charging effects. Powering the model is a massive 7,200mAh battery pack. This battery supports 90W wired fast charging, 80W wireless fast charging, and reverse wireless charging.
While Nubia’s flagship series has always been known for its powerful hardware, some models have lacked photography capabilities. However, the Z80 Ultra aims to rectify this with a significant improvement in the main camera.
The 1/1.56-inch sensor in the previous Z70 Ultra has been upgraded to a larger 50MP 1/1.3-inch OmniVision LightMaster 990 sensor. This camera features a wide f/1.5 aperture and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). The main camera is accompanied by a 50MP 1/1.55-inch ultra-wide-angle lens with a 120-degree field of view and f/1.8 aperture.
The third sensor is a 64MP 1/2-inch periscope telephoto camera with 15cm tele-macro support, OIS, and an f/2.4 aperture. While the ultra-wide camera has been upgraded, the telephoto camera appears to be the same as last year’s model. The Nubia Z80 Ultra is available in China with multiple storage configurations. A global release is expected soon. The device’s starting price is $702.
