For many years, Nvidia has been improving performance in games with the help of artificial intelligence in DLSS technology. AMD’s equivalent to this technology is FSR. Following the introduction of FSR 3.0, AMD unveiled a brand new technology called Fluid Motion Frame.
What is AMD Fluid Motion Frame? Which GPUs support it?
AMD has unveiled a new technology that aims to increase frame rates in games without requiring developer support. The new frame rendering technique, called Fluid Motion Frame (FMF), will be available through AMD Adrenalin software. While similar to FSR, the fact that it doesn’t require developer support suggests it will expand rapidly.
FMF works by inserting machine-learned virtual frames between real rendered frames. This artificially boosts the displayed frame rate and makes scene movement more realistic.
According to AMD, FMF is currently supported in 12 games, including Starfield, Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Witcher 3. However, users can enable it for any DirectX 11 or 12 game in the Adrenaline driver settings.
The only restriction for FMF is that it is exclusive to the Radeon RX 7000 series for now. If you are using a graphics card from the RX 7000 family, you can install the latest Adrenalin update to get a performance boost in games.
It’s worth noting that Fluid Motion Frame is not a competitor to technologies like FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) or DLSS 3. In fact, since it’s implemented in software, it may provide less of a performance boost. However, it aroused curiosity with the fact that it can be used in all games.
