Nvidia collaborates with MediaTek on next-gen automotive chips
MediaTek has been focusing on the automotive industry with Dimensity Auto, aiming to connect cars together. The partnership with Nvidia, announced during Computex 2023, brings AI, cloud computing, and graphics technology to the automotive industry.
The agreement between the two companies involves integrating Nvidia’s AI and RTX GPU patents into MediaTek’s chips used in the automotive sector. This integration is expected to provide significant AI features for cars.
MediaTek will be able to use Nvidia’s software, including Drive OS, Drive IX, Cuda, and TensorRT machine learning. These software applications will be used for the information, entertainment, and security functions of vehicles running on the Dimensity Auto platform.
Currently, MediaTek’s Dimensity Auto platform powers multi-screen setups, high dynamic range cameras, and audio processing in the Auto Cockpit. However, the company aims to strengthen its presence in the automotive world by incorporating Nvidia’s technologies.
According to research firm Gartner, the market for infotainment chips used in vehicles is projected to reach $12 billion in 2023. It is not known which car manufacturers will be the first to test the collaboration between Nvidia and MediaTek.
