Nvidia postpones Arm processor plans

Ana sayfa / News

Nvidia encountered technical hurdles in its work on its first ARM-based processor for desktop PCs. The company’s next-generation processor, codenamed N1x, was initially planned for launch and shipment in 2025, but its release date has been updated to 2026.

The problem with the N1x isn’t just a production glitch. According to reports, the issue requires a significant revision to the silicon design. Nvidia engineers encountered a similar issue in the first quarter of the year, but a solution was provided at the time without requiring any changes at the silicon level. This time, the situation is even more critical. The company hasn’t yet disclosed the details of this technical hurdle.

The N1x processor is in the same league as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite, Apple’s M3, Intel’s Core Ultra 200HX, and AMD’s Ryzen AI Max series. With the Windows on Arm platform gaining momentum by 2024, Nvidia was preparing to enter the race. However, with the delay, the company’s first real move on this platform will occur in 2026 at the earliest.

Nvidia’s desktop ARM processor project isn’t just a technical test. The company is also known to be collaborating with MediaTek and Dell’s gaming brand, Alienware. Despite this, the delay has reiterated the difficulty of ARM architecture gaining a permanent foothold in the traditional PC market. Analysts note that the dominance of Intel and AMD’s stable x86-based solutions remains a significant obstacle for ARM.

Nvidia’s position in the desktop processor market with the N1 series will depend on both the outcome of this technical revision and the consumer adoption of ARM architecture.
