NVIDIA teams up with Microsoft to build Cloud AI Computer

Ana sayfa / News

Video card giant NVIDIA and tech giant Microsoft have announced that they are joining forces to build a powerful supercomputer focused on artificial intelligence. NVIDIA and Microsoft pay great attention to artificial intelligence systems in terms of their business position and area of focus.

This will be a long-term collaboration

The duo, which has many specialized systems built on artificial intelligence systems, wants to be stronger in this regard. Because the future is already being built on this infrastructure. In this context, NVIDIA announced a long-term partnership with Microsoft to build one of the world’s most powerful AI supercomputers to handle the massive computing workloads that are required to train and scale AI systems.

The duo will build an AI-focused supercomputer based on Microsoft’s Azure cloud infrastructure. The platform will have thousands of units of the Hopper H100, a very powerful GPU that NVIDIA launched in October. NVIDIA will also use thousands of units of powerful GPU, the A100, in the setup. This hardware will use the Quantum-2 InfiniBand networking platform. Data transfer rates of 400 gigabits per second will be achieved between servers.

Manuvir Das and Scott Guthrie spoke about this collaboration

“AI technology advances as well as industry adoption are accelerating. The breakthrough of foundation models has triggered a tidal wave of research, fostered new startups, and enabled new enterprise applications,” said Manuvir Das, vice president of enterprise computing at NVIDIA. “Our collaboration with Microsoft will provide researchers and companies with state-of-the-art AI infrastructure and software to capitalize on the transformative power of AI.”

“AI is fueling the next wave of automation across enterprises and industrial computing, enabling organizations to do more with less as they navigate economic uncertainties,” said Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of the Cloud + AI Group at Microsoft. “Our collaboration with NVIDIA unlocks the world’s most scalable supercomputer platform, which delivers state-of-the-art AI capabilities for every enterprise on Microsoft Azure.”

The supercomputer will focus especially on artificial intelligence systems such as DALL-E. It will be used to train/enhance their creative production processes. But of course, it will also be involved in different processes too. A supercomputer with a strong AI focus will be of great benefit in many areas where NVIDIA is actively involved. For example, in self-driving car systems. The companies did not elaborate on when the new supercomputer would be ready. But said the announcement marked the start of a “multi-year collaboration”. It seems likely that the capacity of the cloud computer will increase over time too.
