Samsung is working on the One UI 8.5 update, based on Android 16. The first test version of the update, seen on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, has been revealed to bring new features. According to reports, Samsung is integrating NFC-based file sharing into the Quick Share feature.
One UI 8.5 brings the highly requested NFC feature
With One UI 8.5, users will be able to initiate a file share by bringing two Samsung devices close together. While this system resembles Google’s older Android Beam feature, it uses Wi-Fi Direct for data transfer. This will result in faster and more stable file transfers than the old method. NFC will only initiate the share.
Users will be able to customize sharing via NFC with animations they can choose. Previously, Google discontinued Android Beam due to its slowness. Samsung is modernizing the experience and reintroducing it.
Other improvements in One UI 8.5 include expanded Galaxy AI integration, performance improvements, and minor changes to icon and widget layouts. The stable version of the update will be released alongside the Galaxy S26 series and then gradually rolled out to other compatible Samsung models.
