Samsung continues the beta process of the Android 16-based One UI 8 update. The new version, which is expected to be released with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 models in July, brings with it a striking change in the lock screen design. The company completely renews the clock widget with the update it tested on the Galaxy S25 model in the latest beta version of One UI 8.
One UI 8 update offers a new clock design
The new clock design offers a structure similar to the depth effect used in the iOS operating system. The numbers move according to the objects on the lock screen wallpaper, and thus the clock interface changes in an integrated way with the visual.
The user can move the clock widget to the desired location on the lock screen. Each digit of the clock is automatically resized depending on the location and background image and positioned to adapt to the spaces.
This type of visual effect is not offered by default in Samsung’s current One UI 7 and previous versions. Users who want the depth effect have to install the Lockstar module via the Good Lock application. However, this method is both laborious and does not provide consistent results on all devices. Such restrictions are eliminated with One UI 8.
Images of the new clock effect were revealed with a leaked video. In the video, it is clearly seen how the clock changes shape with smooth transitions and how it blends with the background when switching from the always-on display mode to the lock screen. This effect is not only aesthetic, but also gives the user more control over the lock screen personalization.
The only innovation that Samsung has added to the lock screen is not limited to the clock design. The Now Brief interface has also been updated with new information cards. These cards include functional information such as parking reminders, notifications for smart home devices, and the battery status of wearable products.
It is stated that the stable version of One UI 8 will be released soon. Samsung is preparing to officially present most of the features in the testing process with the introduction in July.
