OpenAI, which is preparing to take a big step in artificial intelligence, is developing its own special chip. A collaboration was made with TSMC, one of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers, for the production of the new chip. The chip, which was produced specifically for OpenAI, will be produced with TSMC’s most advanced 1.6nm process technology. So, what will this chip be used for?

With this chip, OpenAI will take its video production technology called Sora to a new level. OpenAI’s chip development process actually started with a plan for a deeper collaboration with TSMC. The company was considering building a factory in partnership with TSMC, but this plan was put on hold due to economic reasons.
Instead, OpenAI decided to collaborate with leading American chipmakers such as Broadcom and Marvell to produce its chips on TSMC’s 3nm and later A16 process technology. TSMC’s A16 process technology offers major improvements in power efficiency and performance.
For example, this technology can offer 8-10% higher speed at the same power consumption, while consuming 20% less power at the same speed. In fact, this step by OpenAI is important not only in the world of artificial intelligence, but also in terms of its collaboration with Apple.
