OpenAI has completely revamped its image rendering technology. In an announcement on Tuesday, the company officially introduced its new flagship image model, GPT Image 1.5. Available to all users starting today, this new version is particularly noteworthy for its speed, ability to understand instructions, and editing capabilities.
GPT Image 1.5 is four times faster and understands intent
According to the company, the new model is far more successful than its predecessor in understanding user intent. GPT Image 1.5, which understands user intent more clearly, can produce results up to four times faster than before. Problems encountered when making changes to an existing photograph have been overcome with this version.
The model delivers much more convincing results when changing clothes, experimenting with hairstyles, applying stylistic filters, and conceptual transformations. Most importantly, it manages to preserve the essence of the original image while making these changes.
Significant changes have also been made to the interface to improve the user experience. A new Images tab added to the ChatGPT sidebar offers users ready-made filters, trending commands, and ideas. With this move, OpenAI aims to transform its platform from a tool for producing only fun images into a fast and flexible creative studio that can be used for everyday editing and professional work.
Under pressure from investors, OpenAI is highlighting these new features, particularly for corporate use, to increase profitability. Marketed as an ideal tool for business and product visualization, the model represents a strong response to the viral success of Google’s Nano Banana image.
OpenAI Applications CEO Fidji Simo also emphasized in a statement that the new model and image features function exactly like a design studio.
