Fake Telegram app was growing rapidly

Kaspersky security researchers have discovered several infected Telegram apps on Google Play. According to their analysis, the malicious apps were developed to steal user data such as messages, contacts and device details.

Fake apps claiming to offer more features and be faster than the Telegram app have received more than 60,000 downloads on Google Play. Kaspersky said the apps targeted the Asian market. But most of the downloads came from Chinese users.

Telegram was blocked due to personal data breaches!

The popular messaging app Telegram was shut down due to critical accusations such as data breaches. Here are the details

Once installed, the fake Telegram apps access the contacts list and transmit personal information such as the user’s name, ID and phone number to the remote server, according to the research. All messages received on the infected device are also intercepted and sent to the attackers.

It is believed to have managed to bypass Google’s security checks thanks to packet names similar to the Telegram app. However, Google has removed the malicious apps from the Play Store and deleted the developer accounts. Google has also said it will introduce additional verifications to strengthen scans for popular apps.

Cybersecurity experts warn against downloading modified or “more advanced” versions of popular messaging services. Even if you haven’t downloaded the fake Telegram software, we advise you to stay away from software like WhatsApp Plus.
