Overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2: Expanding its reach!

Ana sayfa / Processor

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a formidable competitor in the realm of Android phone processors in 2023, is lauded for its impressive CPU configuration and unparalleled GPU. Originally, Samsung landed a significant victory by procuring an overclocked variant of this processor, named Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, exclusively for its Galaxy S23 series.

A leap to other brands

But, as the adage goes, “good things come to those who wait.” After much anticipation, the overclocked SoC is finally accessible to other smartphone manufacturers. Gaming smartphone brand REDMAGIC confirmed on Weibo that their upcoming REDMAGIC 8S Pro will feature the robust Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Leading Version.

The brand disclosed that this new version matches the Galaxy-specific variant’s CPU clock speed of 3.36GHz, a marked increase from the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor’s peak speed of 3.2GHz. If the REDMAGIC 8S Pro follows suit with Samsung, the GPU boost should rise from 680MHz to 719MHz, enhancing the device’s performance further.

Are the benefits significant?

Despite the appeal of an overclocked processor, it is crucial to note that it doesn’t offer a monumental leap over the standard chipset. Testing reveals only modest improvements in single-core CPU and GPU performance. Regardless of the variant chosen, users will still reap the benefits of substantial processing power.

Interestingly, in our comparison, the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s sustained performance fell short when pitted against the REDMAGIC 8 Pro, which boasts a superior cooling system. This makes us eager to explore the performance capabilities of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Leading Version when combined with REDMAGIC’s cooling technology.

With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 extending its boundaries, we expect more devices to leverage this enhanced performance feature in the near future. But what do you think? Do you believe the overclocked variant provides enough value to justify the wait? We’d love to hear your thoughts, so please share them with us in the comments below!
