AMD and Microsoft made a major Copilot+ announcement at Computex 2024. An exciting partnership was established for AI (artificial intelligence) PC support with Copilot+. This partnership heralds a new era in AI-supported PCs. So, what awaits us? Here are the details…
AMD and Microsoft Copilot+ partnership heralds a new era in AI PCs
This major announcement at Computex 2024 will bring revolutionary innovations in AI-supported PCs. The goal is to offer a significant performance boost in AI PCs by working together with AMD’s 3rd generation Ryzen AI Strix Point processors and Microsoft’s Copilot+ initiative. But why is Copilot+ so important for AMD?
Copilot+ is a new standard set by Microsoft for AI-supported PCs. It comes with a minimum requirement of 40 TOPS (trillion operations per second) AI performance, 16GB RAM, and 256GB SSD. These features offer a faster and more efficient experience by running AI workloads locally. The new AMD Ryzen AI 300 series processors exceed these standards and offer 50 TOPS performance, outpacing their competitors. In other words, these new PCs will be really fast and smart.
AMD CEO Lisa Su stated at Computex that the new Ryzen AI 300 series processors perfectly align with Microsoft’s Copilot+ initiative. These processors have a powerful neural processing unit (NPU) that boosts AI performance. Major names like Adobe, Epic Games, Solidworks, Sony, and Zoom will also enhance their AI performance using AMD’s NPU.
Copilot+ offers many new features in Windows 11 AI PCs. For instance, real-time translation with live subtitles is now possible. You can unleash your creativity with Cocreator running locally in the Paint application. Additionally, new Windows Studio Effects and AI-supported enhancement features for games are available. These features will make your PC smarter and more useful. Now, you can run some Copilot workloads directly on your PC.
Currently, AI PCs supporting Copilot+ features include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X SoCs. However, this support will expand further with AMD’s new processors. The new AMD Ryzen AI 300 series processors will enhance performance in AI-supported PCs, enabling users to work faster and more efficiently.
The new AMD Ryzen AI 300 series processors include the 12-core Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and the 10-core AI 9 365 models. These models can reach maximum boost speeds of 5GHz and come with integrated RDNA 3.5 Radeon 890M and 880M graphics units. According to AMD’s benchmark tests, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is 98% faster in Blender compared to Apple’s M3 chip and 73% faster compared to Intel’s Core Ultra 185H model.
Pricing details for the upcoming AMD hardware with Microsoft Copilot+ have not been announced yet, but Ryzen AI 300 systems and Ryzen 9000 chips are expected to be released in July. Among these new laptops will be models such as the ASUS ZenBook S 16, Zephyrus G16, and MSI Stealth A16 AI+. How do you think these new technologies will make a difference in AI PCs?
