A cybersecurity expert from a well-known company has revealed that phones are being monitored through a popular application. Here are the details:

Privacy is of much greater importance today compared to previous years, as smartphone usage has become extremely popular. Carelessly downloading apps onto your phone or accepting software updates from these applications can sometimes provide malicious developers with access to your information.

Recently, a scandal exposed by a cybersecurity expert revealed that an app was constantly listening to the surroundings in the background, violating privacy principles. According to the expert, this particular application regularly sends these audio recordings to the application developer. Here are the details:

So far, the phones of 50,000 application users have been monitored!

According to a statement made by a cybersecurity expert named Lukas Stefanko, a screen recording application called iRecorder Screen Recorder records ambient sound every 15 minutes. The application encrypts the recorded audio and uploads it to an external server, silently collecting the private information of thousands of users.

Hyundai’s $200M TikTok security debacle

Hyundai settles TikTok-linked lawsuit with a hefty $200 million, impacting millions of Hyundai and Kia owners.

The Android app called iRecorder Screen Recorder was introduced to users in September 2021. Although it could be considered an innocent application serving its purpose at the time of release, it started recording user data after receiving an update in August 2022. The malicious application, downloaded and used by 50,000 users, was quickly removed from Google Play after the scandal came to light.

With Google Play Store swiftly removing the malicious app from its platform, it prevented new users who were unaware of the danger from downloading it. However, the 50,000 users actively using the application need to take immediate action by ensuring necessary controls.

To protect your privacy, we recommend checking the current permissions of the apps on your phone, disabling automatic updates to review permissions with each update, and being cautious about downloading only applications released by trusted developers.
