Ever since Payday 3 launched in September 2023, players have been complaining about the lack of a solo offline mode. Nearly nine months later, the anticipated offline solo mode is finally coming, but on one condition: You still need to be online to use this mode
Why does Payday 3’s offline mode still require online?
Server issues, bad matchmaking, bugs and performance problems have been among the complaints of players since the launch of Payday 3. Since then, the developers at Starbreeze have continued to update and fix the game, improving its online play and adding new content. However, the game’s requirement to always be online and the lack of a true solo mode remains unchanged to this day.
With the new Payday 3 update coming on June 27, players will finally have access to solo offline mode. However, you will still need to be connected to the game’s servers for this mode to work. In the developer update, the game’s global brand manager Almir Listo talked about the newly added heist and the much-requested offline solo mode. However, he noted that you’ll need to be connected to the game’s servers to access solo mode, and that you’ll need to connect to the servers again before closing Payday 3 for your progress to be saved.
Listo said, “This feature is not exactly how we want it to be. For now, we’ll roll it out in beta to test how it works.” He also noted that the game’s performance may be affected in solo mode, as some parts that were rendered on Payday 3’s servers will now run locally on your PC. However, the developers say that the beta mode works and you can make progress provided you connect to the online servers again.
People are wondering why they launched an offline mode that requires online access. According to Starbreeze, it’s because they wanted to test that this feature works and build on it. In fact, Listo noted that what will launch on June 27th is not a true offline mode. “It’s not an offline mode, it’s a solo mode where parts of the game hosted on our servers are hosted on your device. It’s a stepping stone for a future feature, not something we’ve released and finalized.”
For now, you still need to be online to play solo and be in offline mode. What do you think? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
