People Can Fly fired more than 120 people
People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski attributed the layoffs to market conditions that exceeded the company’s forecasts and stated that they had to rethink their publishing strategy. The restructuring led to the cancellation of an unannounced game known internally as Project Victoria.
The studio was also forced to cut resources for another project called Project Bifrost. Support teams within the company were also affected. CEO Wojciechowski said in a statement that they had to adapt to the dynamic nature of the gaming industry.
People Can Fly will pursue more business opportunities and prioritize a single game. He also underlined the company’s commitment to its remaining staff and projects, but said they had to align their goals with their current financial realities.
The layoffs make up a significant portion of the studio’s staff, previously reported to be over 700. Both Project Victoria and Project Bifrost were games planned for release after the studio’s publishing deal with Take-Two Interactive ended.
