Pixar announced its new projects to be released in the coming years at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France. Luca director Enrico Casarosa and producer Andrea Warren are working on the studio’s new feature film “Gatto”, which is on the 2027 calendar. The film centers on a story set on the streets of Venice.
New details from Gatto and Toy Story 5
Gatto tells the story of a black cat who is fond of music. The cat bonds with a young human girl while trying to escape the complicated underworld in Venice. The film has an original visual aesthetic that gives Pixar a hand-painted feel that it has never used before. The announcement of the production was a surprise announcement after the presentations of Elio and Toy Story 5.
Another production introduced by Pixar was “Hoppers”. Directed by Daniel Chong, creator of We Bare Bears, the project features a young girl named Mabel, voiced by Piper Curda, who transfers her mind into the body of a robot beaver in order to save a local pond.
Hoppers, which does not yet have a clear release date, is among the productions that continue Pixar’s approach to producing experimental works. New information about Toy Story 5 was also shared at the event. The film will be in theaters on June 19, 2026.
While the classic characters of the series return to the screens with their new owners Bonnie, this time an interesting new character joins the story. An advanced tablet that attracts Bonnie’s attention and resembles the Leapfrog and VTech devices creates a new balance between the toys. The role of the tablet character in the story gives the series a different dynamic.
