Google launches many updates to Pixel devices. Especially, Pixel phones get the latest updates at first. However, there could be problems and bugs sometimes because of the updates. Over the past day, Pixel users discovered a bug in Google Assistant. The users are seeing a “TNG” error at the bottom-left corner of the screen while they try to open voice entry. Here are the details about the “TNG” bug on Pixel phones.
Google Assistant “TNG” bug opens keyboard instead of voice entry on Pixel
When users want to use voice input, Google Assistant opens the keyboard instead of the voice entry on Pixel phones. A lot of Pixel owners are encountering this problem. However, not all users don’t have a problem like this. When they launch the Assistant, automatically the keyboard appears, and the users are seeing a “TNG” bug on Pixel phones.
The impacted users, launching Assistant via the power button, corner swipe, and microphone icon in the Pixel Launcher search bar, or “Hey Google!” hotword always opens the keyboard. You cannot fix it even though you set the preferred input to “Voice”. You can see the preferred input from Assistant Setting > General > Preferred input.
Users cannot use the voice input because of the “TNG” bug on Pixel devices. They are just tapping the voice microphone, which adds an extra step to the search process and makes the Assistant decidedly not hands-free. However, you shouldn’t remove the installed updates to the Google app because it could affect other Assistant features worse.
Additionally, the “TNG” letters could be the sign for the next Google Assistant update. Since Google sometimes refers to next-generation updates to existing products, the letters could be references to Star Trek: The Next Generation. Nevertheless, we hope Google will fix the TNG bug on Pixel soon.
