Playing games with the power of thought now possible!

A new milestone has been reached in the brain-computer interface. Noland Arbaugh, a paraplegic who has been testing Neuralink’s chip for some time, managed to play Civilization 6 overnight. The 29-year-old controlled the strategy game using only his mind.

Paralyzed from the neck down after a swimming accident, 29-year-old Noland Arbaugh continues to test Neuralink’s experimental implant. The company previously showed him using a computer with the power of thought. It then shared a video of Arbaugh playing Mario Kart.

He performed his last test of the Neuralink chip with Civilization 6. In a live broadcast on Twitter, he said that one of the first things he did was to play Civilization 6 all night long. Thanks to Neuralink’s chip that measures brain waves, he was able to play the game on his own for hours.

“It was great, I had actually given up on playing this game, and now I can literally lie in bed and play to my heart’s content,” Arbaugh said.

The biggest limitation for the Neuralink chip at the moment is recharging the implant after prolonged use. But it shows that brain-computer interfaces can restore mobility to paralyzed or amputee people.

Although seen as a big step forward, the project is at the center of controversy. It is already known that Neuralink has had difficulties in obtaining some legal permits. Especially the scientific experiment on humans was rejected many times. In fact, the company, which allegedly conducted some experiments without legal permission, was able to obtain permission to work on humans for the first time in May 2023.
