Sony announced the latest figures for the PlayStation 5 console. PS5, which has not met expectations in the past three years, seems to be on the agenda with its turbulent sales in 2024. So how much PlayStation 5 was sold in the last quarter?
PlayStation 5 sales reached 59.2 million
Sony announced that PlayStation 5 sales have exceeded 59.2 million units since its launch in 2020. Although console sales met expectations, it is possible to say that it has decreased compared to the last fiscal year.
In its financial earnings report for January through March, Sony announced that PS5 sales totaled 20.8 million units. This figure shows that the company met its target of 21 million units. However, Sony’s previous target was to reach 25 million sales.
In the fourth quarter, 4.5 million PS5 consoles were sold, compared to 6.3 million in the same quarter last year. In this context, Sony expects PS5 sales to drop to 18 million units in the next quarter.
All these figures revealed that the competition between PlayStation 5 and 4 will create controversy. While more than 117 million PS4s have been sold so far, this figure remained at 59.2 million units on the PS5 side.
On the other hand, Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead, achieved an unexpected success on PS5 and PC. Accordingly, the game sold more than 12 million units in just 12 weeks. Taking the seat of God of War Ragnarök, Helldivers 2 became the fastest selling PlayStation 5 game.
