The black mold that formed on the back of POCO’s new X7 Pro model has become a hot topic. A post shared on Reddit shows that the faux leather coating used on the back of the yellow X7 Pro model has caught mold. The owner of the phone stated that the device had become like this in a short time, and the image quickly attracted attention on social media.
POCO x7 Pro became a hot topic with a mold problem
The yellow color option of the POCO X7 Pro comes with a soft-textured “eco-leather” panel instead of plastic. While dual-textured plastic is used in the black and green models, only the yellow model has this material. This difference may have caused the device to become more vulnerable to mold.
Eco-leather can have a porous structure depending on the polyurethane or plant-based materials used in its production. This paves the way for mold formation, just like real leather, especially in humid environments.
Mold is known to be a problem previously seen in phone cases. However, in such cases, users can remove the case and clean or replace it. Mold on the phone itself is a much more complicated issue.
It is considered that the fungus-like structures that form in areas where the device comes into direct contact pose a serious risk in terms of hygiene and health. The situation becomes even more worrying, especially when you consider that the phone is frequently held in the hand and comes into close contact with the face in daily life.
The example shared shows what consequences devices left in a humid environment or used with sweaty hands for a long time can face. No official statement has been made on the subject by POCO or parent company Xiaomi at the moment.
