Pokopia prototype leak shows a scrapped Stardew-style Pokémon game

Ana sayfa / News

The Pokopia prototype leak paints a picture that few fans expected. What began as a farming-centric spin-off from Game Freak ended up transforming into something else entirely before Nintendo passed it to Koei Tecmo.

Unlike typical Pokémon titles, this Pokopia prototype takes a laid-back approach. Players control a humanoid Ditto, not a trainer. You aren’t battling for badges, you’re feeding Bulbasaur, planting crops, and building fences.

The gameplay shares more DNA with Stardew Valley than Scarlet & Violet. The world’s open, resources are scattered, and Pokémon are more like neighbors than weapons.

Splatfest Victory Goes to Team Zombie in Splatoon 3’s 2025 Splatoween

Team Zombie took the crown in Splatoon 3’s 2025 Splatoween Splatfest, defeating Team Ghost and Team Skeleton in a monster mash for the ages.

Even in its rough state, the early build has plenty working under the hood:

Animations and menus remain unfinished, but it’s clear this build was more than a sketch.

This Pokopia prototype doesn’t reflect what’s heading to Nintendo’s next-gen hardware. After 2019, Game Freak handed the project off. Koei Tecmo has since rebuilt it on new tech with full 3D visuals.

Still, key ideas like teaming up with Pokémon to build, farm, and live may survive into the finished version. Just don’t expect the same cozy pixel charm.

The full Unity project leaked online, complete with scripts and assets. If you know how to use Unity, the Pokopia prototype is playable at least in theory.

That said, don’t. The files belong to Nintendo and Game Freak. Using or sharing them without permission could land you in serious legal trouble.

Before the polish and production, Pokopia was something smaller and stranger. A game where you didn’t catch ’em all, you cared for ’em. Whether that heart survives the 2026 release remains to be seen. For now, the leak gives us a rare look at what could’ve been.
