Developed by OpenAI and launched in 2022, the AI-powered chatbot ChatGPT offers both free and paid options. The Plus option, sold for $20 per month, provides users with more features and capabilities, though some users find the price too high. Recent information suggests that a price increase for ChatGPT Plus is expected. Here are the details…
How much will ChatGPT Plus cost?
As known, OpenAI has not been focused on profit until now. However, it was recently announced that the company is restructuring and transitioning to a profit-driven model. This means that the company will now focus more on generating revenue.
According to information leaked from OpenAI via The New York Times, the price of ChatGPT Plus is expected to increase from $20 to $22 by the end of this year. Moreover, this fee is not expected to remain fixed over the next five years. It is claimed that by 2029, the price of ChatGPT Plus will reach $44.
Sources indicate that OpenAI generated $300 million in revenue last August. However, the company is expected to incur a $5 billion loss this year. The primary reasons for this loss are employee salaries, office rent, and the infrastructure needed for AI training. At one point, it was reported that ChatGPT alone was costing the company $700,000 per day.
Currently, there are more than 10 million users subscribed to ChatGPT Plus. Surveys suggest that most of these users already find the $20 price tag too high. So if OpenAI introduces a price hike, it is likely to face some backlash.
