Paradox Interactive has announced that the release date for Prison Architect 2 has been postponed indefinitely. The game was scheduled for release in September, but the studio and publisher have announced that they will be refunding customers who pre-ordered the game. This isn’t the first time Paradox Interactive has gone through a bad patch this year, as the Sims-like game was also canceled. Let’s talk about it.
Why was Prison Architect 2 delayed? Developer made a statement
While Prison Architect 2 was expected to be released on September 3rd, Paradox and developer Kokku announced on August 2nd that the game would not be released on that date. In a statement on the official Paradox forums, the developers said that they needed more time to improve the game’s performance and content. They also stated that they cannot commit to a new release date or window, adding that they are re-evaluating the scope of work that needs to be done to get the game ready for release.
The dev team stated that communication with fans will be limited and that they will be back in touch when they feel more comfortable to share the game and the release timeline. Due to this indefinite delay, Paradox Interactive will cancel pre-orders on all platforms and issue refunds. Additionally, all of the digital items previously promised for those who pre-ordered will be included in the base version of the game.
Paradox Interactive’s last few years have been quite challenging. Just recently, Paradox delayed and then canceled its Sims-like game Life By You. For this reason, there is concern that Prison Architect 2 may face a similar fate.
Paradox’s other projects have also encountered problems. Announced in 2019, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, announced in 2019, was almost canceled due to multiple delays and a change of developer in 2023. The Lamplighter’s League was an expensive failure. Cities: Skylines 2 was released in such a bad state that Paradox had to halt all DLC plans and focus on fixing the city building game.
