In the news we shared with you yesterday, we mentioned that Sony has made a significant increase in PS5 prices for the Japanese region. The PlayStation 5 had just gone up in price for the third time, coming to $552 for the disc version and $504 for the digital version. After this news, the PS5 started selling like hotcakes.
Japanese gamers rushed for PS5 without price hike!
Before the PS5 price hike in Japan, gamers rushed to stock up on the console. After Sony announced its decision to implement a significant price hike for both the disc and digital versions of the PS5 in Japan, consumers flocked to stores to grab the opportunity.
Notably, Bic Camera, one of Japan’s leading electronics retail chains, sold out of PS5 stock within hours. The PS5’s prices will increase significantly starting September 2, 2024. The price of the disc version will increase from ¥66,980 to ¥79,980 (about $552), while the price of the digital version will increase from ¥59,980 to ¥72,980 (about $504).
These price increases from Sony are reminiscent of 2022, when PS5 prices increased worldwide. During that period, PS5 prices increased in many regions such as Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.
These increases were unavoidable due to high inflation and cost pressures. For example, in Europe, the digital version of the PS5 has risen to €445 and the disc version to €550. Similarly, in the UK, the digital version has risen to £390 and the disc version to £480.
It seems that Japanese gamers have chosen to add the PS5 to their collections before it sees another price hike. What do you think about this? Don’t forget to share your opinions with us.
