Quake 2, the legendary game of the gaming world, is back with a surprising announcement. id Software and Bethesda announced Quake 2 Remastered during the QuakeCon event. This marks the return of the 26-year-old action game.
Quake 2 Remastered launches for Windows and Xbox
First released in 1997 and taking the gaming world by storm, Quake 2 is known for its fast-paced action. The remastered edition includes the base game as well as The Reckoning and Ground Zero, and a new expansion called Call of the Machine.
While not as influential as the first Quake or its sequel Quake 3 Arena, it’s worth noting that Quake 2 has its own unique audience. With its single-player campaign and numerous multiplayer modes, the game that left its mark on the 90s is back on the agenda in 2023.
Quake 2 Remastered brings 4K and widescreen resolution support to the classic action game. Bethesda also said it will provide much improved lighting, models, animations and effects. The 26-year-old game has also received improvements such as anti-aliasing, depth of field, and split-screen.
In addition to the base game, Remastered includes 33 single-player levels and 21 multiplayer maps from mission packs. The all-new Call of the Machine pack adds 28 campaign levels and one multiplayer map.
Quake 2 Remastered is available for Windows, Xbox Series X/S and PC Game Pass. The game is available for $9.90, but accounts that own Quake 2 on Steam will receive a free update.
