Qualcomm eyes Samsung’s 2nm technology

Ana sayfa / News

In recent years, Qualcomm has distanced itself from Samsung Foundry in the production of its high-performance Snapdragon processors. However, the company seems to have changed its mind, as it is showing serious interest in collaborating with Samsung Foundry again for the next generation of Snapdragon processors.

Qualcomm is considering using Samsung’s 2nm process technology in the production of Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which will probably be released in 2025.

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon announced at a press conference at the W Hotel in Taipei that they are seriously considering working with Samsung Foundry for their upcoming flagship Snapdragon processors. This means Qualcomm will return to a dual-source strategy. The company aims to reduce risks by outsourcing the production of processors to two different sources (Samsung Foundry and TSMC).

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5’s use of Samsung Foundry’s 2nm process technology will be a significant change in Qualcomm’s strategic choices in processor production. The company is looking for a new way to solve the overheating and power efficiency problems experienced in previous generations of Snapdragon chips.
