Qualcomm unveiled its new Snapdragon chipset targeting the mid-range smartphone market. The new platform, called Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, aims to bring the flagship-level experience to affordable phones.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 features
Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 promises a performance boost of up to 20 percent for CPU and 40 percent for GPU compared to its predecessor. It also offers 30 percent better AI performance thanks to improved processing capabilities.
According to Qualcomm, these figures will allow support for in-device AI features such as large language models. The company also said the 7s Gen 3 is 12 percent more power efficient overall. This efficiency means longer battery life for mid-range devices.
On the camera and video front, Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 features a triple image signal processor capable of capturing 12-bit photos and 4K HDR video. It can improve photo and video quality with new AI-powered features such as AI Remosaic and AI Video Retouch.
Qualcomm said at the launch that it has signed deals with major manufacturers such as realme, Samsung, vivo and Xiaomi and that the new platform will power mid-range devices. Xiaomi is expected to launch a model with Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 at an event in September.
“Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 sets new benchmarks in terms of performance in its class,” said Thomas Wang, Director of Xiaomi-Redmi.
