Critical news has arrived from the tech world that will upset end users and burn wallets. Micron, one of the world’s largest memory manufacturers, has officially launched a process that will shock RAM and SSD prices with its radical decision. The company is changing the rules of the game by withdrawing completely from the consumer electronics market.
Why will RAM and SSD prices increase?
The US chip giant announced on December 3, 2025, that it is discontinuing its legendary “Crucial” brand. The company will no longer operate its production lines for end-users, but for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. The withdrawal of such a major supplier from the market will constrain global supply. A wave of significant price hikes is expected for computer components due to reduced competition and product shortages.
To compete with Samsung and SK Hynix, Micron is shifting its focus to HBM (High-Bandwidth Memory) technology. The insatiable memory demand of AI servers and the high profit margins of the enterprise market have forced the company to abandon the consumer market. So, as AI evolves, PC gamers will pay the price with hardware shortages.
The company has decided to halt sales of Crucial-branded products at retailers. Under existing contracts, shipments will continue until February 2026. However, as inventory dries, hardware may become more difficult to find, especially in the first quarter of 2026, and prices may skyrocket.
So, what are your predictions for this upcoming wave of price hikes and RAM and SSD prices? Are you considering building a system? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
