The leader in the affordable minicomputer world has been hit by fluctuations in the global market. The Raspberry Pi price was officially increased today. The company announced that memory (RAM) production costs have reached unsustainable levels, particularly due to the surge in demand generated by the artificial intelligence sector.
Which models have been increased by how much?
This increase in prices has particularly hit models with higher RAM capacities. Users will now have to pay between $5 and $25 more for popular models. The updated price list is as follows:
- Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB): Increased from $55 to $60.
- Raspberry Pi 4 (8GB): Increased from $75 to $85.
- Raspberry Pi 5 (2GB): Increased from $50 to $55.
- Raspberry Pi 5 (4GB): Increased from $60 to $70.
- Raspberry Pi 5 (8GB): Increased from $80 to $95.
- Raspberry Pi 5 (16GB): Increased from $120 to $145.
To counter the negative sentiment created by the price increases, the company has also introduced a more affordable alternative. A new Raspberry Pi 5 model with 1GB of RAM is now available for $45. This move aims to stabilize costs for entry-level projects and educational purposes.
The primary reason behind this increase is the massive memory demand for AI servers and data centers. As manufacturers shift capacity to this profitable area, the supply of standard memory chips has dwindled, sending prices skyrocketing. Raspberry Pi CEO Eben Upton stated that this is a “temporary but painful” process.
